A fine deal and partnership then. It's been some time since I've felt the thrill of meeting someone with such a discerning eye.
I'm no stranger to the tables, cards mostly.
[ He may be temporarily banned from the dice tables for cheating. ]
I'll admit I occasionally indulge in some shopping or a stop at the lounge. There's a more interesting one, if you know where to look. Otherwise, I will admit I spend perhaps a few too many nights with my girl.
A rabbit I acquired a few months back. Lest I give the wrong impression.
[Charlie immediately got the wrong impression - he was about to be so annoying about who this girl was. Good thing his new companion clarified.]
Oh, one of the bunnies!! Keep a close eye on her, there's some guys out here who'll want to eat her. She's got a name, right?
Sorry, I got distracted. I'll look for you at the card tables - I'm not a great hand myself but I'll play to chat. What I'm more interested in is that lounge. Someone mentioned it to me, said he couldn't take me there, though.
[ In an overabundance of caution, Charlie is now off the proverbial suite guest list until he's demonstrated he isn't one of those guys. ]
Unfortunately, I can't promise anything more than your other friend. The Roost is elusive, curiously rewarding if discovered, but dubiously worth the effort. I'm certainly game to hunt it down with you, should you like.
Do you consider yourself particularly lucky? Or are you at least clever at finding hiding places?
[Luckily, Charlie couldn't eat a rabbit even if he wanted to. The worst he'll do is talk her cute lil' ears off...]
Now that's an interesting question to ask. How much of stumblin somewhere you shouldn't be is luck, and how much is a knack for nosing around? I don't know the answer, but I do know I've found some people who very much did not intend to be found.
And if we're already talkin about this place, then it's easier to find than those guys.
[When you notice and uncover a ring of suspicious underworld leaders and oops all vampires. It worked out for Charlie, at least. He's one of them now.]
You know what I'm havin a harder time finding? A centrifuge. I know, that's a little off topic, but-
It's not for me. Just a side job. Can't imagine The Roost is the place to look.
But it's a place to start. I trust you, but for fun, what do you bring to the table here?
(ooc; so does atsuhiro, so he'll only grow fonder with a fellow rambler~)
A centrifuge, you say?
[ It's the first thing he manages to get in, not wanting to interrupt the barrage of messages, but certainly needing to take his time in digesting the subtler cues within it. ]
I suspect Broken Wing might be the better place to search for such a thing to start But I also don't think you'd be wrong in at least inquiring amongst some of The Roost's patrons Surely something so innocuous would be easier to come by than some of the other things I've heard whispered.
[ Not that he has much use for lab equipment or weapons here, but it is nice to feel something akin to home now and then. ]
As for luck, I'm a man who makes my own, though it's hardly the only or really even the best thing I bring to the proverbial table. By your account, I'd say the pair of us have the odds well within our favor when it comes to finding ourselves precisely where we want. There's hardly a rhyme or reason to the discovery, but having a good nose and a keen eye are the best tools for a kit, no matter the occasion.
And time, of course, if you'll have any to spare in the evenings.
Evenings are a good time for me, I can do that! I'm hopin to find this place, with our keen eyes and that good nose, but even if we don't, I'm sure we'll wander somewhere interesting. You make your own luck, I make my own fun. My own opportunities.
Like you said, we're a good pair.
Now, from what I've heard of The Roost, they do some smuggling. Imagine for me a huge fuckin centrifuge shoved into a bag like contraband. I want that. I want that more than I want a knife in my hand. [He still wants a switchblade, though - a greedy man, he'll pursue both.]
So I'm lookin for a farce of a caper and you want.. what? What are you gettin out of this? A good time with a new friend? [Charlie doesn't mean that sarcastically, he does things for that reason regularly.]
Should we manage to negotiate your centrifuge, I'll gladly make it far easier to transport than simply bagging and running.
What I want in return? A good question.
[ He goes utterly silent for a time, no waffling typing and deleting but making of excuses either. No, for the first time in quite a long time...he finds he's merely continued this discussion for the enjoyment of it. He hasn't been in the position or had the opportunity to plan or plot very much of anything since he'd arrived, and truly it just feels good to get back to his roots.
But he can't very well admit something so soft now, can he? ]
I'd like to be able to call in a favor once we've successfully located Roost. Nothing in particular in mind, but it will be commensurate with the difficulty, without an expiration but with the option to decline once, maybe twice, if the favor doesn't end up suiting your nature.
My offer to help carry your prize is hardly as weighty, I think, so for that I might merely ask for a round of drinks on you.
[In the pause between messages Charlie changes windows, rotating his chatter between a few other victims. With each new prying question sent he brings Atsuhiro's window back up to check for a reply.
When a response finally comes, Charlie arches a brow. It's shrewd, which isn't surprising given the man's personality thus far, but this is certainly a shift in tone.]
You make "blank check" sound really pretty, have you hooked someone like this before?
I'm jokin' [No, he's not.]
I am amenable to buyin you a round of drinks for your help, sure. And, since I've been enjoyin our conversation, I'll be amenable to that little scheme you put in front of me too.
We find The Roost - or somethin else worth finding - together, I'll make sure to satisfy a favor for you.
We can shake on it when we meet. [A bit of old fashioned formality to make up for Charlie's glib manner of speech.]
[ The fact that Charlie sees so easily through his words brings nothing but a smile to his face. Accustomed as he is to talking circles around most, to find someone able to so cleanly cut through it all is a charming thing indeed. ]
No matter what happens, we're certain to end the night drunk or lucky or both.
I'm happy to seal it with a handshake.
Perhaps just before midnight in a few days' time? An evening or two to follow the gossip of the employees helps in knowing where to start. But I suspect it'll be somewhere on the main floor regardless, so perhaps we agree to meet by the West elevators.
Unless, of course, you hear a more enticing rumor suggesting elsewhere.
[Charlie was, when he was alive. He supposes he still is, provided he can find someone to drink from with alcohol in their blood. Somehow, he doubts this guy qualifies.
Still, there's plenty to enjoy about him-
How easily he rolls with the open scheme being one such quality.]
A handshake at the West elevators after two days. So, on the third night after this one - I'm always happy for an opportunity to listen where I can. I look forward to the handshake! [He's been using 'handshake' as a euphemism, so it feels a bit funny to say in earnest.]
And I'll let you know if I hear anything interestin' to change our course.
Now, I can get a little turned around in here, so if I'm late don't walk off, okay?
I'm built of heartier stock than most, but tend to show my hand regardless.
[ Charlie can interpret that how he likes. ]
I'm also a patient man, so there's no fear of being stood up, if that's on your mind. Although if it's truly a struggle, I can always offer to find you at your suite instead?
It might not be a bad idea to check the decor along the way, depending on which floor you're on.
Though it's hardly anything more to speak of, I'll gladly show you around mine another time.
[ Read: Foisted his rabbit onto a friend for the day in an overabundance of caution. ]
For now, though, we'll call it even, and plan to meet by the elevators as agreed. I'll merely recommend having a good meal beforehand. The hunt could take us the better part of the evening, if not the entire night.
( ooc; for sure! let's see what they end up having in store for us, but i'm equally happy to plan outside of it too if nothing quite pings. )
[This rabbit is cherished - it's adorable. The worst Charlie will do is talk its cute lil ears off, but we respect Atsuhiro's good parenting here.]
A good meal, eh? I'll make sure to do that. [Not that he needs permission to harass and bite someone, but he's tickled that he's been granted it unknowingly.]
I'm gonna do that now, too, but you let me know if you need anything in the meantime, okay?
[OOC: Ending Charlie's bit here - thank you for sticking with this thread! I'm excited to see what the event brings, and like you said, if nothing jumps out at us I'm happy to start something else for us!]
Otherwise, I'll merely look forward to our misadventure.
( ooc; it's been a pleasure! this summer has just been dreadful on my end so apologies for the trickling replies. we'll sync up for this month's event for sure either way :3 )
i love it too ;;
