Who said anything about fire? [Please say less about fire! There are so many other effective ways to destroy things, this Vampire would like you to know-]
But yeah, it'd be awful to put all this fuckin legwork into leavin the place only for the bastards to repeat whatever magic they did to get us here.
I think it's interesting you're lookin for a device, and not a spell. What if it's not something you can destroy? You gonna kill everyone who knows the process and tear up the books?
Mages aren't so straight forward, let me tell you. [Not that he's opposed to giving that approach a try.]
Which is to say, I agree. We need to know what we're dealing with. I'm quite uh.. nosey, so if I stumble into anything, I'll let you know. In the meantime, don't hesitate to ask me to do gruntwork - I don't mind.
[ Sorry, Charlie, this is the artist formerly known as the Flame Emperor. ]
I have no idea if what has made this possible is a spell or a tome or an object but this is a significant reason I continue to assume we will have to fight our way out one day. The best theory I know is that this entire resort is a demiplane and we are being used as a source of needed power or energy. In that case I think we are too valuable to lose. I would suggest that the captive mages here may be able to piece together an escape that has little to do with how we were brought here in the first place and there are certainly a few puzzling over it but we are so closely monitored that I have a difficult time believing a development like that will simply be allowed.
But your interest in nosing around may prove useful. Beyond the most pressing mysteries there is an area in the maintenance levels with a door that is locked and appears to no longer see use. It is labelled "Punishment Protocol." I am curious as to whether it is as abandoned as it seems but currently know of no way past.
[ It isn't the only magically locked door she has encountered but it's enough to start with. ]
You're makin sense. That makes sense. [For all Charlie values and delights in the mundane, he is from a group inundated with the supernatural. Magic, differing planes, and energy succulence are not foreign concepts to him. The woman may sound more like a mage herself than an undead, but as she said.
They'll all need to work together to get out of here.]
If I can find it, I'll look into it - the hallways have a habit of turnin me around. Is this suspicious door just uh, sittin there unadorned or is there somethin I should know about the area? Dangerous to go in? Hard to get out of? Secret handjob spot?
Have you gotten lost for a significant amount of time?
[ She has heard of this happening, although at the time she thought it was a joke.
What she hasn't actually heard before is the term "handjob" and it takes her the space of a few heartbeats to circle back to the realization of what he must mean, complete with a faint unbidden blush that she is glad he can't see. ]
The entire maintenance area is a bit odd. I have been down there twice and never encountered anyone working. The suspicious door has a large lock on it and the label is faded. I assume it is magically locked as well. You will know you are in the right place when you encounter a group of large empty pods, also seemingly abandoned. If there is a real danger there I haven't heard of it. Being manipulated into sexual acts is the only risk most of us encounter regularly.
Although I have heard rumors of a tentacled creature deep in Crane's Respite.
Never for longer than a night, but I'm embarrassed to say it's almost every evening. Now, understand, I don't have the best sense of direction until I really know a place, so some of that's my fault.
Maybe not all of it, though? At least, that's what I'll say to make myself look better.
[He's joking about it, but thinly - he agrees the venue is clearly shifting for some purpose.]
Sounds like I'll need some help findin someone on staff down there or gettin the door open. You know anyone I can take along? If not, that's fine, I'm workin on makin some friends - but a guy like me can put people off!
Huh, a big squid? Someone should have a cook-out! [This guy has never heard of tentacle porn.]
